Hot water boilers use a heat exchanger to heat water to an indicated temperature, determined by a programmed setting. The desired temperature water is then distributed into the home's piping to transfer the heat through either radiators or radiant flooring. The warmth of the pipes releases heat in the desired space (or zone) and creates a comfortable indoor environment. This comfortable indoor environment is programmed by the indicated temperature communicated to the thermostat. Additionally, the production of heat through water provides radiant heat and therefore heats the objects inside the room, providing a consistent temperature while proving to be quite efficient. Additionally, there is the option to use a hot water boiler as a combination system and create on-demand hot water capabilities versus a storage tank. Each individual's situation is different and the use of either water system is dependent on the needs of the consumer.
While boiler system maintenance tends to be less crucial than a furnace system, it should still be considered annually. With a hot air system, we are concerned with air quality, as that's the main flow of heat throughout the home. With a boiler, we know that the main flow of heat is driven by water; therefore water quality needs to be consistently addressed. With a magnetic filtration system like the Magnaclean, we can easily trap sediment and irritants. Once a year, this filter should be rinsed and reset. At the same time, your tech can get eyes on the system and its operation, and alert you to any issues that should be addressed before they become a problem.
